Dear Mr. Fantasy

Dear Mr. Fantasy

"Dear Mr. Fantasy, play us a tune Something to make us all happy Do anything, to take us out of this gloom Sing a song, play guitar, make us happy...." This song transports me to another time and place more than any other. And the lyrics mean more than ever as we seek to get out of the heavy gloom the country, indeed the entire world, seems to be stuck in today. Steve Winwood played Dallas Tuesday night, September 19, with his talented daughter Lilly opening for him. The father and daughter had teamed up recently to collaborate on a remake of Steve's 1986 hit "Higher Love" for a touching Hershey commercial featuring s'mores. Sounding and looking as great as ever at 69, he tore through the many musical styles (Spencer Davis Group, Bind Faith, Traffic, solo) and seminal songs of his spectacular musical career as if he was still the 15 year old shaggy haired prodigy. For two and a half hours at least Tuesday night I was transported out of the gloom. Thanks Steve, and Lilly!
