We have an update on our olive tree! On October 18th we received pictures of our olive tree along with the sign with the name which we created honoring Debbie’s mother, Ruby and Stratton’s, father, Gene – hence Ruby Gene!
According to Helen–Constance Klapsis at the Estate, it was a long and hot summer, especially during the heatwave in July where they had to water the trees much more than normal. But Mother Nature took a kind turn and there was lots of rain in the first part of October which was very beneficial for the production of the olives resulting in the olive trees being loaded making it a very productive year.
We look forward to receiving and sharing our olive oil with our friends and families during the Christmas season. I also ordered some of the fig preserves which were raised locally. Fun fact: farmers looked for native fig trees as they always grew close to water which helped them determine where to dig their wells. We will receive 4 liters of fine, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and one liter will go to Unicef. It’s a great program and I can’t wait for my shipment to arrive. If you are interested, you can always adopt an olive tree without ever visiting but I encourage you to visit the estate! For more information, you can visit their website www.liotrivi.info.
