Our last meal in Greece was on the shores of the Aegean Sea in the small town of Kamena Vouria. What a beautiful setting! As is common in Greece, we went to the kitchen of the restaurant to choose our fish. We selected a beautiful bream and then watched as they weighed it to confirm what the cost would be – certainly not how it is done in the U.S. They were excited to see us in their small open kitchen and encouraged us to take pictures of the grill where the fish was prepared along with buckets of water on the counter which contained all the vegetables they had bought at the market that morning which were being kept fresh in cold water.
I enjoyed a glass of the local rose and Stratton enjoyed a local beer as we watched the small boats continue their sail. While in Greece I became addicted to the Greek salad which consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and green and/or yellow peppers with a touch of olive oil. I could not pass up this last opportunity to have yet another Greek salad along with fresh bread and more olive oil.
The fish was divine! Served with lots of lemons and warm butter. A simple but delicious meal to end our trip in Greece.
